I know y’all heard about America’s official “apology” for slavery and Jim Crow, right?

WASHINGTON – The House on Tuesday issued an unprecedented apology to black Americans for the wrongs committed against them and their ancestors who suffered under slavery and Jim Crow segregation laws…

It says that Africans forced into slavery “were brutalized, humiliated, dehumanized and subjected to the indignity of being stripped of their names and heritage” and that black Americans today continue to suffer from the consequences of slavery and Jim Crow laws that fostered discrimination and segregation.

The House “apologizes to African-Americans on behalf of the people of the United States, for the wrongs committed against them and their ancestors who suffered under slavery and Jim Crow.”

“Slavery and Jim Crow are stains upon what is the greatest nation on the face of the earth,” Cohen said. Part of forming a more perfect union, he said, “is such a resolution as we have before us today where we face up to our mistakes and apologize as anyone should apologize for things that were done in the past that were wrong.”

In other words, they’re saying, “Sorry for forcing you to come over here, build our country with your own blood, sweat and tears and then legally making you less than a man. Good lookin’ out, though!”

But you know what doesn’t get mentioned, right?

The Cohen resolution does not mention reparations. It does commit the House to rectifying “the lingering consequences of the misdeeds committed against African-Americans under slavery and Jim Crow.”

This whole thing is a joke. This Cohen guy who put the whole “apology” together is trying to win some election in Memphis next week. Apparently he represents a district that is 60% Black and REALLY wants his constituents to know he’s “down”.

This B.S. is another example of why I don’t fuck with politics or politicians. You can read the whole story here.

And this has nothing to do with this, but I’ll bring it up anyway since we’re talkin’ race: Am I wrong for not giving a single fuck about CNN’s “Black in America” series? I mean, I just don’t understand whose benefit they’re airing it for. We already know what it’s like to be Black in America and white folks probably don’t care. And even if they did care, there’s no way you could fit the whole experience of being Black in America into a couple TV specials. It just seems like a waste of time to me, and I looove Black people.

Just my cheap-ass two cents.

  1. I won’t say it’s too late but it still doesn’t mean shit until we becomse equal. In 2008, we still are not equal to them. The Black in America thing only touches on the surface of being black but doesn’t show what type of oppression that blacks have to deal with day in and day out no matter who you are. Look at the white’s current favorite black guy Obama. You really think a white person would have to deal with all the negative stuff that Obama is getting? From being painted as unpatriotic to being a radical Muslim, it doesn’t make sense.
